  1. or try to fix not your PC as most people do, but your USB system with format app. I re-upload my short tutorial how i fixed my usb when i was just losing my will to fix it because i was sitting four f***ing days (if not more..) in front of my pc trying to find a solution. Sorry for spam, i wont upload this again here. Hope it will help you somehow.

“For those who cant see USB flash in Disk Management (you can see it but with “0 Mb” or “No Media” sign – YOUR FLASH DRIVE IS NOT BROKEN!!!!
You just need to find your USB’s chip information to find a proper USB formatting tool. I used “ChipGenius V3.01” program for that. In that program you need to check “Tools on web” line there should be a link. copy and paste to your browser. if that page is in asian – use google translate while pressing your right mouse button on that asian page (everywhere you can press your mouse) and “google translate” function. there you should find to download an app called somehow with word “format”. if you cant, then you should check “chipgenius” app again and check “Chip vendor” and “Chip part number” lines and google with that information (add “formatting tool” or smth). it found for my KINGSTON G3 DATA TRAVELER 8GB (old one) app called ” Phison Low Lever Formatter v2.10.0.5″ and it formatted my USB properly!! but in case you are going to use that app – its kinda buggy, old and made by asians (maybe china, ooh yeah im racist loooool :PP) so you will need to restart your pc and try that app again if its going to freeze and stuff.. and dont trust the “Pick out usb and put in again and then press OK” command windows in that app, because it freezed and made my USB only 4mb.. 😀 but no worries, i repeated it again and i did not put out anything just clicked OK and thats it, it finished to format it properly. EDIT: I re-formated again because Phison Low Lever 2.10.0.5 (as i mentioned above) failed me. but i tried the newest version of it, 3.19 or 3.5 cant remember exactly, but if you going to try it just google – “app name” newest version,”

  2. Hello! I try to install Windows 7 on my Macbook Air 2014. When I record my usb flash in fat32 and reboot – i see this message: It seems your usb disk was seen as a floppy/zip disk by BIOS. What can I do with it? As I know there no BIOS on Macbook..

    • Well…, call it BIOS, UEFI, EFI firmware whatever, it presents the USB disk as floppy, not as disk. You could try the PLOP option at boot time, or find the relevant BIOS/EFI/UEFI/whatever option which makes this happening. Also could try different format options.

    • There isnt any solution i asked before. Use another bootable disk maker at google. Winsetupfromusb support only usb-hdd.

  3. Hello! I used this tool to make a multi-Linux-installer-disk, but the only install mode of these Linux Disk is UEFI (the only mode I need), and the only method that I can use is Legacy Mode. So how can I install these OS in UEFI Mode?
Or if you can add some UEFI boot method like reFind or something else?

I’m sorry for my poor English, and if there anything you don’t understand, please ask me again.

I’m looking forward to your reply.

    Thanks a lot.

    • Oh, I forgot to mention a point that Windows NT6 and after can be installed under Windows PE environment. So maybe you can add some PE iso and let user installed the windows OS in it.
(It can use to put any number of Windows install images in the USB disk).

      • Add such ISO yourself, that’s supported. Then you can install any source yourself.

NT6 and later l can not only be installed under PE, but that’s also the only manufacturer supported way of installing it.

    • Grub4dos powerful features are used to handle nearly any kind of linux iso without modifications or extracting source. Grub4dos does not and won’t support UEFI, as it relies on BIOS calls which is completely different than UEFI. Here is where story ends.

  4. Hi itaushanov,

The other day I wanted to boot an old custom PC from my WinSetUpFromUSB memory stick. However, the PC’s motherboard was so old it did not support USB-boot, so I installed Plop to the MBR of its hard drive and tried to boot to the memory stick using Plop’s “Boot USB” option. However, the machine just crashes when I do this. I then tried to use Plop to boot another USB memory stick which has Rufus installed on it (to boot into DOS), and that worked fine. Is it not possible to boot a WinSetUpFromUSB memory stick using the “Boot USB” option in Plop?

    Cheers,

    Alex

    • Yes, I have done it many times and that’s why it’s included by default.
Might be worth trying other plop version, or make a few attempts as it crashes sometimes.

  6. The problem is this, when you try to install the OS from multiboot usb 3.0 on an old laptop or PC we get the error:
“Shifting USB disk to be last….
It seems your USB disk was seen as a Floppy/ZIP disk by BIOS.
Will try to launch PLoP boot manager which mighthelp to makethe USB disk seen as a hard disk.
This is experimental and is not quarenteed to work as expected.
If you re using USB keyboard, you wont be able to use if after the menu reloads.
The highlighted menu entry will auto start after 10 seconds. You can shut down or reset the computer if its not the desired one.

Press any key to continue or wait 20 seconds to timeout
    20”

USB flash drive WinSetupFromUSB created in 1.7 and is great on new machines(boot in legacy and uefi), but older PCs and laptops can see it, but after trying to start it give black screen with the text which is written above.

Once again, what we are talking about the flash drive usb 3.0, with usb 2.0 the same multiboot USB flash drive works fine on all computers.

Really looking forward to your answers, who have dealt with similar situations!
Is there a possibility to install on old laptops and PC with this stick or is it not really because of the incompatibility of devices?

    • How large is the USB stick? Size may matter. File system too. Experiment.
      There is no universal solution.
Is it set as removable or fixed disk in the controller? Google for “flip removable bit usb stick” to learn more.
On the old PCs is there any BIOS option about the USB storage to be presented as ZIP/floppy or Hard disk?
You are hitting BIOS limitations, program tries to do what’s possible to get around, but PLOP doesn’t work on all broken BIOSes. You may also try upgrading or downgrading PLOP version. Again, success is not guaranteed, PLOP is just the last resort for buggy BIOS/hardware.

      • The size of the flash drive 64GB and it is a prerequisite, I need that kind of volume. In the BIOS download information with usb a, laptop this USB flash drive. If you try to select usb via plop writes an error that seems to not stick. What can I do?

  8. Hey Guys, I’ve got a similar problem to the above, but no Swedish.

There are a couple errors in the log, but the ones right before the program quits are quoting:

Above that, there’s a couple errors saying

The second errors seem to lead to the creation of the required resources in the WIM image, or without its use, but I could be wrong.

Please advise if you’re at all able, I would appreciate it greatly.

      • I learned that ISO is the old Standard, and UDF is the new standard, and that OS discs for windows use UDF. I extracted the contents of my ISO and rebuilt a bootable UDF .iso file, pointed it to the [BOOT] folder to a file called “Bootable_NoEmulation.img” for the boot image.

I reran your program to try and make this new UDF image a bootable USB, and got the same dialog popup as in my first post, and though the log now sees the ISO as UDF, it’s still quoting “the path does not exist in the WIM image” and “Access is Denied.”

        Here is the updated package.

        • The issue is:

          2017/01/15 01:59:40- Updating BCD store in E:\boot\bcd
          2017/01/15 01:59:40- Path to bcdedit.exe: C:\Windows\system32
2017/01/15 01:59:40- Checking for multiple osdevice entries

2017/01/15 01:59:42- Updating default description to: Vista x64 in E:\boot\bcd
2017/01/15 01:59:42- The boot configuration data store could not be opened.
          Access is denied.

I have no clue why bcdedit, which is used internally, gets “access denied” when trying to work with C:\Users\Mitchell\Downloads\WinSetupFromUSB-1-7\TempWST\boot.bcd. Might want to move program to c:\winsetup\ for example, or check/disable antivirus software if any.

  9. Ubuntu Kylin 15.04, 16.04 and 16.10 WinSetupFromUSB 1.7 , I want to make 900 MB persistence file but I get 614 MB ?
WinSetupFromUSB 1.7 and 1.6 have problems adding config settings in Casper File, NOT compatible with Ubuntu Kylin Chinese Version, there is a Casper persistence file 614 MB but after live start I want to change some settings (Language and more, they didn’t saved in the Casper file, after booting the settings I made, are gone, everything works fine with Ubuntu or Xubuntu.

    Please your reaction and solution

    • About the file size- please share the log files, details on the FAQ page.
About the persistent settings- you might need to find the correct kernel boot parameters for this version and amend them in /menu.lst.
