  1. Hello, have a qeustion to this great tool. Normally if you boot directly from windows dvd you can see “repair options” at left bottom. if you boot windows setum from usb, the repair options wont show.

    how to fix that?

    thanks!

    • Which Windows version?
Don’t you get dialog box at start asking you whether to run repair?

Can also use the Q-dir option and launch whatever you need prior to starting setup.

      • Windows 7, 8 and 10. Sometimes the dialog box appear (only 8 and 10) but this is long time ago. Never see this again. Have made a Multiboot Stick to install and repair Windows at every time on every pc, so i need the repair options. I know i can add the repair disk isos from every windows version, but this is not working when pc only has usb 3.0. have think it must be a nice solution there, then wat is the reasion that the normal repair options not appear?

        mean this

its german because im german user 🙂

        • Need to test a bit on my side. As mentioned, workaround is always to include Q-dir, as from it you can always launch whatever you need before Setup. No need at all to add separate repair ISOs.

          • Dont understand how q-dir can help here, i need to start repair options that are not can be start manually. otherwise i can use schift+f10 to start cmd during setup and can start what i want except the repair options.

    • Repair option just launches an executable file, I don’t recall the name, need to check in the source code and computer is not around. You should be easily find in with a bit of googling.

      • i have thinked to that it just must be an .exe file, but i cant find the right one. googlin for a while and nothing found yet. maybe ist an optional switch behind a .exe.

        • File is x:\sources\recovery\recenv.exe, where X: is Setup system drive, the mounted one from boot.wim, not a volume on the internal or USB disk. On unmodified source it’s always X:

I see in source code that custom prompt whether repair to be launched is for older Windows versions, like Vista etc. It’s been a while since I played with that, but remembering on newer versions repair option was present on the stock Setup start screen, Maybe Microsoft have changed something since my last tests, will take a look when spare time allows.

    • Hey, short Update. I recreate USB-Stick with other Windows Isos and the Repair Options is now shown with Windows 7 and 8. Only in win10 is missin. Using Build 10.0.14393.

    • A required privilege is not held by the client

This comes from bcdedit. Is some other program messing around?
Where is WinSetupFromUSB located? Move it to a simple path, c:\winsetup for example.

  4. Love your tool, if only I could get it to work! I just made a stick with Win7, Win8.1 and Win10 on it. I can boot fine to it, and I get the menu where I can select which setup I want to run. After that I get “Loading files…”, which completes on each OS setup, then it freezes at some point early in the next phase. At that point, in Win7 it says “Starting Windows” and freezes even as the color logo is taking shape. In Win8.1 I get the teal logo image, then it goes to black and stays there. In Win10 I have the teal logo with spinning white dots below, then it goes to black and eventually the activity on the stick stops. I used FAT32 – should I have used NTFS?

    • FAT/NTFS wouldn’t matter.
      Try USB 2.0 port.
      Try disconnecting any additional hardware.
      Try on another machine.
The issue you are having I doubt has anything to do with the program. Does the same source work with the MS tool?

  5. You will get the message “HAL.DLL corrupt or missing” with Windoze XP if the boot.ini file is corrupt.

Boot from Windoze XP installation CD, chose ‘recovery console’ (or press F10 when it asks for F6 at they very beginning).

    Enter: BOOTCFG /REBUILD
