  1. Please help, i installed windows 7 from my usb using this program everything is great, but now, i need to make my usb normal again, so i can use it for saving other files. How to do it?

    • There is nothing special with the USB disk now, it’s just bootable. You can continue using it as a storage, or if you need more space just format it, from explorer, BootIce, RMPrepUSB etc.

  2. Hi. I installed Win 7 x64 in UEFI mode, all great. Now i looking to add Kali Linux 1.0.8 (that supports UEFI mode too). I adiing this, using “Linux ISO / Other Grub4dos compatible ISO” option. Once i get “Job done” message, i checked, that Kali linux option appears in “menu.lst” file. But, when i trying to boot from “UEFI: MyUsbStickName” – it boots windows 7 setup, without any prompt/menu to choose what system i want to install.
Is it possible to make muliboot, that contains x64 Windows and Linux, both in UEFI mode?
Thanks for great software and sorry if my English somehow dissapoints, it’s not my native language.

    • Hi Denis, currently when booting in UEFI mode only the UEFI aware Windows versions are supported.

You might add Kali Linux manually, and use grub2 or rEFInd as UEFI boot manager, or simply use EFI shell to load Windows bootmgr or grub2 efi loaders directly.
I can assist you to some extent, just let me know.

  3. @itaushanov
    Thank you for reply.

For now i installed Kali Linux with Win 7, but only Win 7 in UEFI. I just press F7 (Select boot device in my case), and select “My USB stick name” except for “UEFI: My USB stick name”. Then i launched Kali Linux installation and then allow it to replace Windows loader with GRUB loader.

Afterall, when i boot my system – it loads Win 7 without any menu. But i can always press F7 and select “My HDD name” except for “Windows boot manager”. Here it loads GRUB menu with Kali Linux.

  4. i downloaded the original iso for windows 7 sp1 professional X17-59885.iso.
when i try to “add to USB disk:” WinSetupFromUSB 1.4 says
“This doesn’t seem to be a valid source!
Either or all of \sources\boot.wim, \bootmgr, \boot\, \boot\BCD are missing,
    or source is not supported”
so which images do you recommend me for Windows 7 Pro 64

    • Most likely it’s a corrupted or broken download. Compare checksums of the ISO file and re-download it of necessary.
In addition, make sure program has access to the folder where the ISO file is.

Safest bet is to extract program in a simple path, without funny characters and spaces in it, e.g. c:\winsetupfromusb and use similar paths for your sources.

Program uses 7-zip internally to list archives, you could also try if 7-zip opens and extracts this file.

      Added:
Just tested original X17-59885.iso, downloaded from digitalriver, works just fine.

  5. first of all i am really happy to use this tool, i have recently faced a new problem which i think might be share with you… as we know that their are Uefi booting system for which Fat 32 is needed with file size limitation ,which we can use to install and use our OS, but i have recently downloaded a controlsoft iso image for eight point one, which is Aio v2.1 of X86 and X64 with a iso file size of 4.37 gb, but as our new software of WINsetupfromUSb ver. 1.4 uses whole iso for fat 32 and uefi booting, now its become a critcal situation, i just wanted to say, that COULD YOU PLEASE ADD SOME COMMAND TO USE OLDER METHOD IN WHICH SETUP COPIED IN ROOT DIRECTORY LIKE IN WINSETUPFROM USB VER 1.1 , 1.2 OR IN 1.3, … JUST ADDING A OPTION TO USE NEW METHOD OR OLD METHOD TO FORMAT AND INSTALL ISO OF 8.1 IMAGE MADE FOR UEFI BOOTING OF ISO SIZE MORE THAN 4 + g.B WOULD BE A LOT APPRECIABLE AND MADE OUR TOOL FAR BETTER THAN OTHER AGAIN… THANKS A LOT IN ADVANCE

    • If there is a good reason for such support it won’t be hard to implement it.
      My point of view:
      – XP does not support ExFAT natively, the program can’t be run on such machines unless the XP update for ExFAT support is applied. There are still quite a lot of users running XP
      – XP installer can’t run off ExFAT volume
      – NT6 support for booting from ExFAT volumes starts with Windows 8 bootmgr. If one needs to install Windows 7, he has to replace the default bootmgr with one from Windows 8. If both are added to the USB disk, program checks and uses the latest version, so this case is covered.

What are the advantages of ExFAT in regards to USB boot, compared to the widely supported now NTFS, that you need such support?
