  1. Hello, I’m using winsetupfromusb for a long time, and its works great. But now I buy 256gb flash drive and now menu lists doesnt appear on some PC’s and laptops. there says cannot find menu.lst and loads GRUBDOS with commandline. Its normally works on most PC’s but on some pc-s I have that problem. with old usb drive all works great. What can I do?

    • Can’t do much except to use smaller disk, say 128 GB. Limitation comes from the machine/BIOS. Might also try different format tool, but safest bet is to use smaller disk.

  2. Hello,

I wish I could add the contents of a bootable ISO because with an iso I do not have the desired result. Do you think this is possible and if so how?

In advance, I thank you for your answer.

  3. When PC has UEFI and Safeboot enabled in BIOS, and I select to boot from USB, it bypasses boot menu goes straight to Windows 10 setup (although I have Linux ISO on the USB as well). When I disable UEFI in BIOS and boot from the same USB, then I get to choose what to boot… Is there a way make this work in the first scenario? Thanks!

    • In UEFI mode only Windows sources are supported. Grub4dos, which boots all other sources, does not support UEFI.

      • Thanks. If I create for example Ubuntu USB with rufus, then I can boot it even if UEFI is enabled. Why is that I wonder?

        • How many sources do you get on the USB disk with Rufus? It dumps source as it is, without any modifications or fancy stuff to get it going or to accommodate and boot more sources. As soon as you need to put more sources, the fun begins, along with the trade offs.

  4. I have tried Yummi and RM-Prep and with neither could I get win 7 to boot from a usb3 stick with multiple o/S on it.

WinSetupFromUSB however worked immediately – it even stopped the dreaded a required CD driver is missing error when usb3 drivers arent present in the wims.

    I am really impressed.

    • After of add the iso for windows 10
      ¨Advanced Options¨
      ¨Custom menu names for Vista/7/8/Server Source¨
and will appears a box for typing ¨xxxxxx¨ insted of NT6
      (i.e. 6 character max, e.g. W10x32 or W8x64).

      • First prompt is for folder name only and has to be short, the second prompt is for the boot menu name which can be longer.

    • You can edit menu.lst in root folder of the USB drive. Change title Windows NT6 (Vista/7 and above) Setup to title SOMETHING

  5. I have a 256GByte usb-stick split in 3 partitions with Bootice. Part.1 (fat32), part.2 (exFat), part.3 (NTFS).
Part.1 is for normal smaller iso’s like windows distro’s, recovery tools etc.
    Part.2 is for larger iso’s
Part.3 is for normal storage for windows.

    Problem:
I have some a normal windows 10 iso witch fits on part.1. However i have a windows 7 iso witch is 4,3 GByte witch does NOT fit on part.1.
So i want to copy the iso to part.2, witch can handle files bigger then 4 GByte.

How do i modify WinSetupFromUSB so it loads the iso from partition 2 ?
I know how to edit the menu name of an item but i want to change the location where the iso is located in WinSetupFromUSB.

I did try to unzip the iso to a folder and in WinSetupFromUSB choose the 1st option (WIndows 2000/XP/2003 Setup) but when i selected the folder with the unziped files/folders, i only could see the folders but no files.
When i click on “Select folder” i get an error that some .SIF files could not be found.

    Thank you

    • 1) The option for Win 2000/XP/2003 is for these versions only. Use Vista/7/10 option for Windows 10.
      2) Program can handle > 4 GB Win7/10 ISOs on FAT32 partition. ISO file is split in parts, which are merged on the fly when needed, no user intervention is needed.
      3) If you still want to use the NTFS partition, then just select it in the USB disk selection box. For this to be displayed disk must be of fixed type, so Windows recognises and mounts all partitions. For removable type disks Windows uses only the first partition. Disk type is set at stick controller level and can be modified only with dedicated software for the particular controller.

On multi partition disks, program places boot files on the active primary partition and all other files on the selected other partition.

  6. Hello, I’m using winsetupfromusb to create Win 10/ Win7, everything works alright but it takes a long time when booting into the Windows setup interface.
I have tried to use UltraISO to creat Win 10/ Win7 with the same USB disk and the same PC, it is much faster, but it can not create multiboot USB.
I found that the entire ISO file was put into my USB disk, and I suspect that PC will take a lot of time extracting the ISO file, is that right?
Coud I extract the ISO file to my USB disk and shortten the loading time?

    Thanks and regards.

    • Which part exactly is slower? How slower? What is the exact model of the USB disk?
There should be no noticeable differences in boot times.
ISO is not extracted, but mounted as a virtual disk.

  7. Thanks for your answer.
The “Windows is loading files” screen is slow. It takes 8 mins and 45 seconds to loading the files when loading the Windows 10, and 4 mins and 38 seconds for Windows 7.
The model of the USB disk is MUF-64BA(Samsung BAR)

    • Are you booting in BIOS or UEFI mode? Check if is there is any setting in BIOS about USB speed. Try other USB port. Try to load PLOP if booting in BIOS, press F1 at the prompt right after boot starts. That’s something unique about this machine/USB stick combination.

      • Thanks.

I’m booting in BIOS mode, and the USB port is a USB 2.0 port.
The computer is an old one, with 4 Gigabit Memory and AMD 5200+ CPU, but it works fine if I use UltraISO to creat Win 10/ Win7 with the same USB disk and the same PC, that’s weird.
I will try other USB ports and other computers later.
