Note: A few antivirus programs keep detecting a couple of the included files as viruses. This is false positive. These vendors were informed numerous times and the serious companies such as DrWeb and Kaspersky, update their signatures to remove the false detection within a few hours after being informed. Others, such as McAfee, despite all the efforts and contacts, don’t do anything to update their signatures. Windows XP iso has to be extroacted and added with the proper option, not as iso, look at FAQ and Tutorials pages for details. Cannot comment on RouterOS, haven’t tested it yet but I will.

In some motherboards, some that are old, like in some HP, Dell and NEC, USB booting doesn’t work as it should. In BIOS the USB is recognized as “USB RMD-FDD”, not as “USB-HDD”. No option to change the USB type appears to BIOS configuration neither. It works great in ASUS and GIGABYTE boards, as far as I have tested.
It seems it somewhat works when booting via the integrated Plop, but I get BSOD during Windows XP blue-screen setup, just before loading the partitions. Possibly not a fault of the Windows XP source because it works great with other computers. Notice that the modified fixed NTBOOT is also included in my source WinXP.
Can this be solved?
Is the BSOD 0x7B and is that on Dells? If yes- most likely the modded ntdetect.com was not added properly. How exactly did you add it?
Another option is that the disk controller is in SATA/AHCI mode and drivers are not loaded. Look at the FAQ how to use the built-in DPMS option for such drivers.
I use the option “Custom NTDETECT.COM file for 2000/XP/2003 Setup”. It is either buggy BIOS (as I said, the BIOS should have read the USB stick as “USB HDD”, not as “USB RMD-FDD”, aka USB floppy drive) or WinSetupFromUSB problem. If I format via CD/DVD everything is normal, so it doesn’t seem to be a WinXP source problem. Strangely this happens only on old (2000 – 2006 era) OEM motherboards but not on newer ones or non-OEM motherboards (like ASUS, Gigabyte, ASRock, Intel).

When booting the USB drive as normal, just after clicking “Windows XP/2000/2003 Setup”, a black command prompt appeared with GRUB corrupt error, something like that. Again I insist this errpr appeared on another machine (with MSI motherboard, the USB drive recognized as USB RMD-FDD), on the Dell machine it wasn’t recognizable at all, the computer booted to HDD directly.
“Look at the FAQ how to use the built-in DPMS option for such drivers.” => Not applicable because the source already contains integrated Mass Storage drivers.

In this case if the proper ntdetect.com was used, there isn’t much I could do, at least without having such machine to play with.
USB boot for NT5 family has never been supported officially and with broken BIOS it becomes even harder. You may try using larger USB stick, or even better USB disk, hoping that BIOS would recognise it as a hard disk, rather than FDD/ZIP.

Yes, perfectly safe. You can ensure sending the file to those 4 antivirus vendors for confirmatiom and ask them to update their definitions, as I did few years ago, with no replies.
You should pay attention who is detecting it as well.

I have a Problem – can I ask here?
When I install WIN XP SP3 on a 4GB CF-Card at a thin-client (EPA-TEC) the Setup dosn’t create a “swap-file”,
and after this i can’t activate manualy? Can this cause by “winsetupfromusb”.

Windows by default will not put page file on USB/external disk. You might trick it by using Diskmod.
A second Problem:
In order to solve the Problem “Installing WIN XP SP3” i tryed to install “Win XP SP1a”. I crate the USB-Boot-Stick and start
the instalions.
Afer the frist pass of the installions – the instalion breaks an i get a meassage ” can’t find “%windior%/ntdectect”. When i
try to start the second part of installion with den menu then the system try an then i get the same “meassage”.
I looks like the ther seconed part from the installions can’t be started!

I’d try with confirmed working source. If SP3 works, then SP1 should works as well, if both sources are good ones and the USB disk or the computer is not playing up.
And of course, if ntdetect.com was not copied for whatever reason, you won’t be able to start the second part. Even if you can, this should ring a big bell, that something is wrong.
