Supported Sources

Here is an incomplete list of some of the supported sources tested with WinSetupFromUSB.
Since new sources are added frequently, please check again for updates.

Tests are usually performed on a NTFS formatted USB flash disk, including the Linux based ones. If there are additional steps needed to get a source going or another file system is needed, there will be a note.

Please leave a comment if you have tested another source, with a description and link to it, or if you have a request for a new one.

    • Can’t this motherboard boot in BIOS/Legacy mode? That’s what you need to do.

UEFI is supported only for the Windows family and there is no quick fix or workaround because grub4dos whuch is used to boot other ISOS does not and will not work with UEFI.

      • You are right. It seems I need to enable “legacy USB support” for it to let me boot into the USB non-UEFI mode. Now, Memtest86+ 5.01 is working. Thanks!

  1. Im trying to install windows 7 on a ryzen processor in a aorus X470 ultra gaming motherboard but all i get is the boot. wim file was not found Help !!!!!!!!!!

    • i Know its Microsoft,trying to force windows 10 down everyones throat.truth be told,windows 10 sucks..

  2. Are you currently working on getting this tool to work with the latest windows 1803? Works with 1709 great but I get driver error after clicking Setup when using 1803.

      • Yes it works on all of my machines of varying hardware. I have separate USBs for each model and never have this problem. I didn’t customize it or anything. Just downloaded the ISO using Microsoft’s download tool. Not sure what else to do.

        • Try to debug where it chokes:

Create an empty file debugme with no extension in the relevant sub-directory, e.g \WINSETUP\Win10x64\debugme, and all log files from the start of PE phase will be copied next to it.

  3. Bob Ombs Modified Win10 PE x64 v3.9.7 (http://vault.theworkpc.com/) Currently one of, if not the, best rescue discs – Works out of the box

Avira Rescue System – Boots, but starting the software makes it freeze
Windows XP Pro X64 SP2, Customized through nLite, does not work
Windows XP Pro X84 SP3, Customized through nLite, does not work
Windows 7 Ultimate x64, Customized through NTLite, ESD – works
Windows 10 Pro x64, Customized through NTLite, ESD – works

    • XP should work, a lot of work was put in that and is quite reliable. If it doesn’t work, then need details, quite likely it’s to do with nLite customisations. Stock sources work just fine on supported hardware.

    • Does it expect files outside boot.wim? Can try the other ISO option if all files needed are in boow.wim
Providing the log file might also help, details in FAQ
